Hell’s Kitchen puts local Cambridgeshire firm in the TV spotlight
The popular TV programme Hell’s Kitchen needed a strong good looking tray for the waiters to take from Marco Pierre White to the guests’ table. Oriel’s hardwood butlers’ tray was the perfect solution, but the extra large plates used for service meant that 2 plates could not be placed side by side on the tray.
For such a busy restaurant, it would be impossible to take one plate at a time, so Oriel extended the length of the tray to accommodate 2 plates.
All of Oriel’s products are made by craftsmen in the UK, and they manufacture both standard and bespoke trays for many of the UK’s five star hotels.

He is probably their youngest member yet, but 15-year-old Greg Walton wants to enjoy the benefits of belonging to the Federation of Small Businesses in Cambridge straightaway.
Greg, a student at Saffron Walden County High, got his taste for business when he took part in the Young Enterprise programme which encourages teenagers to find out about running a business.
"Our business was organising parties in the Saffron Walden area," Greg says, but he has now moved on to manage bands, finding them gigs and record deals.
He looks after Naked Squid, Spores, and The Vibes, and by belonging to FSB he can get them cut price insurance and special deals on legal matters such as contracts: "It means I can take advantage of facilities available to larger businesses," Greg says.
His business is called Whitehawk Artist Management Ltd and he is starting to think he might choose this as a career, although he is also interested in becoming a journalist.
Greg's membership of the Federation is being paid for by his bank, Barclays.

Size matters says FSB as it hits 200,000 members
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) today celebrated reaching 200,000 members – a figure larger than the BCC, CBI, and IoD combined. This figure is also at a similar level to the leading political parties, with Labour having slightly fewer members than the FSB and the Conservatives alone having more members. The FSB also directly represents 2.5m employees, nearly twice as many as the UK’s largest trade union, Unison.
The Federation’s National Chairman is therefore calling on the Government and other politicians to give due consideration to such a large voice in policy making, weighing it against the demands of smaller interest groups.
The FSB also pointed out that between 2000 and 2004 large firms shed 1.5 million jobs. In the same time period small businesses created 2 million new jobs. Therefore, to safeguard the future prospects of the UK economy, the interests of small businesses must rise up the political agenda. Even more jobs could then be created.
